Not All Cataracts Are the Same

In very hard cataracts, not only the density of the cataract but also the overall structure of the eye and any accompanying eye diseases should be assessed.

The aim is not only to remove the cloudy lens, but also to preserve the ocular tissues as much as possible while performing the surgery safely.

Cataract Surgery in an Only Seeing Eye

Some patients have functional vision in only one eye.

This may be due to congenital eye disease, previous trauma, retinal problems or earlier vision loss.

In these patients, cataract surgery may require more detailed planning in terms of preoperative assessment, lens selection and follow-up.

Lens Selection

Selecting the intraocular lens to be used is also an important part of advanced cataract surgery.

Monofocal, toric, EDOF and multifocal lenses are designed for different needs.

When selecting a lens, the eye anatomy, daily visual needs and the vision targeted after surgery are considered together.

Can Advanced Cataracts Be Treated?

A cataract being considered advanced or complex does not mean that it cannot be treated.

After a comprehensive examination, suitable surgical options may be planned for many patients.

Every Case Is Assessed Individually

There is no single approach to advanced and complex cataract surgery that is suitable for every patient.

The treatment plan is created by considering the nature of the cataract, the overall condition of the eye and the surgical goals together.

Detailed assessment and surgical experience play an important role, particularly in hard cataracts, only seeing eyes and cases with accompanying eye disease.
